Firstly thanks to all those that came down to the launch night, it turned out to be a great night with four full tables competing to be crowned the first winner, with a mixture of regulars and plenty of new players it was great to see.
The evening started with the FREE CASH giveaway which ended up with The Rock, Stuart Daynes & Craig Hartley winning, the other two winners were Soxy and myself, which we decided to turn into Free Entry bounty’s into next week’s tournament.
I had a steady night and was playing solid, I thought my luck was going to be in when I came heads up with JT – I’d called a pre-flop raise of 6k with pocket Queens but then JT pushed all in from the small Blind. The initial raiser folded, and I had 18.5k to call into a pot that already had 21k in it. I called and turned over my Queens to see JT’s Aces, the flop came K,J,Q all hearts so my set looked quite strong, but JT was holding the Ace of hearts, the turn came another King but I was still worried the magical ten of hearts was going to come to give JT the royal Flush. The river came rag and I’d luckily given JT a bad beat. I was card dead on the final table and eventually got taken out by Phil Da Silva who had played solid all night, finished second and picked up the bounty on my head for a Free entry into next week’s tournament. The other bounty winner was Davey Grant who managed to take out Soxy, so congratulations to him too.
The story of the night though was Tommy Love, he may have a rockstar’s name but he had a fairytale of a tournament. At one point he only had 1,300 chips left which meant he was all in on his blind, he somehow managed to hit Quad 4’s and his chips started to build back up – he followed this by getting pocket aces twice in near succession and made it to the final table with an average stack. Some solid play led to him being left heads up with Phil Da Silva who he finally finished off with his pocket Cowboys against Phil’s A,2. Tommy picked up the £500 first prize and tops the leader board for the league.
Special thanks to the Al the Chef for cooking some great food for the interval too – a trend we will be doing each week when we are running the Friday Freezeout. That brings me onto next week’s tournament, which we are going to keep the same, another Double Chance Freezeout!
PS If anyone wants to know who went out first in the tournament, just ask Lord Whippy ;-)
